Lenno is one of the four historic frazioni of the Tremezzina commune (May 2014 merger), but retains a strong autonomous tourist identity thanks to the natural bay of Dosso di Lavedo. 1,800 residents and 9.6 km², 20 km from Como and 60 km from Milan, occupying a sheltered inlet on the central-western shore.
The headline asset is Villa del Balbianello, built in 1787 by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini on the ruins of a Franciscan monastery and today a FAI property: since 2019 it has been the most visited among the 52 FAI properties in Italy, with over 135,000 annual visitors, roughly 70% foreign. It hosted key scenes from Star Wars Episode II, Casino Royale and A Month by the Lake. The Abbey of Acquafredda (1142, Cistercian) at 300 m elevation completes the religious picture.
