Living in the house
How things work in Italy
A few tips for living Italy like a local. Breakfast is sweet and quick: a cornetto and a cappuccino at the bar, usually between 7:00 and 10:30 (ordering a cappuccino after lunch always surprises the baristi!). Lunch is served roughly from 12:30 to 14:30 and dinner from 19:30 onwards: many restaurants open for dinner only from 19:00, so there's no rush. Between 18:00 and 20:00 comes the ritual of the aperitivo: a spritz or a glass of wine with a few nibbles, the social moment par excellence. Small village shops often close for the lunch break (about 12:30-15:30) and on Sundays; supermarkets in the larger towns stay open all day. Tap water is drinkable. At the table you take your time: you ask for the bill (it doesn't come on its own), and the "coperto" (cover charge) shown on it is normal. Enjoy your stay on Lake Como!
